ABOUT
In The Begining
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been into art. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago I would draw, and build model cars to occupy my time in the long cold winters.
First Taste of Computer Design
In 1983 we moved away from the cold to California. I started eighth grade and was introduced to computers. I learned a simple goto loop and tried to copy the Vans shoes logo on a Commodore 64. There was no operating system or hard drives. For my eighth grade graduation I got an Apple IIe, and a drawing pad that I could draw simple shapes with. That was my first taste of designing on a computer.
Windows & Corel Draw
In the early 90′s a friend built me a PC, and and showed me Corel Draw. At the time I happend to be working for the local skate shop, Bill’s Wheels. Bill wanted to start doing mail order out of the shop, so he needed to make a catalog. In the DIY spirit I took on the project. I designed pages in Corel, printed them out on my dot matrix printer, and then cut and pasted them, with actual scissors and glue, into the layout.
Surfin’ The Web Back On A Mac
In 1992 I got a power PC Apple with a modem. I started using Photoshop and surfing the web. In ’94 I met Susan Farrell who had already started a graffiti web site called Art Crimes. She showed me how to view source code, and through trial and error I would cut and paste code from other sites. I was intrigued that you could build your own site for the world to see. In early ’95 I built Bill’s Wheels first site.
Design In The Real World
After 10 years at Bill’s it was time to move on, and in ’97 I got my first full time design job at Sessions snowboard outerwear. At Sessions I worked on larger more challenging projects in all areas of design (print, web, video, packaging, product photography and trade shows). I was promoted to Senior Graphic Designer and worked there until April of ’09.
Ready For New Challenges
Lately I’ve been working on freelance jobs, and looking for full time employment.
